Review: This is a modern take on a classic tale. Everyone knows the story of the cruel man turned into a beast by a witch and the beautiful girl who falls for him. In this case, the cruel man is a handsome, shallow high school boy who’s rich father couldn’t care less about him, named Kyle. The beautiful girl is a scholarship student at Kyle’s prestigious private school named Linda/Lindy. In this version of the story, there are no talking candlesticks or clocks, but there is a giant library and a very upset witch. The witch, Kendra, decides to put Kyle to the test to see just how cruel he really is. When he epically fails the test, Kendra changes him into a beast that reflects his inside on the outside.

I am giving this book 4 out of 5 stars! This is, at least in my opinion, a wonderful take on the classic, Beauty and the Beast! The character of Kyle endures so much growth and change during this story as he learns to find the beauty in small things and how to truly love. The character of Lindy  is already very mature for her age because of trying to take care of her father; however, we still get to see her grow and change as she finally experiences some real fun.

The romance is not rushed or over played which earns big points from me. Plus, while finding love, Kyle and Lindy also find themselves and how to truly live. This is, to me, what sets a story like this apart from every other “love story”.

I am recommending this book to readers 8th grade up to 108 years old! This was such an easy read, I finished it in only two sittings!
