Title: Genesis Girl (book 1 in the Blank Slate series)

Author: Jennifer Bardsley

Stars – 🌟🌟🌟🌟1/2

Synopsis: Set in a dystopian world where everyone is highly obsessed with tech, this book speaks to many of today’s technology related fears. After a terrible epidemic caused, in essence, by this obsession, a group of people was put together to stand alone against technology. Blanca is one of these select individuals. She abstains from everything related to tech and lives a life apart. Blanca and those like her are very sought after, so much so that upon graduation, they are auctioned off to the highest bidder.

After starting her new life with her purchaser, Blanca begins to see the world a bit differently. After many twists and turns in her life, she is thrown into a situation she doesn’t really understand. When realization finally sets in, the question becomes, will Blanca figure everything out before it’s too late?

Review: I did not know what to expect going into this book. Thankfully, I was very pleasantly surprised! The world Jennifer Bardsley created is believable, terrifying, and fascinating! I found it very easy to get lost in this book, to the point that I read its entirety in only two sittings. This is an action packed story to be sure, it starts with the very first scene and continues until the final moments. This book is most assuredly a wild ride!

At first glance, some of the characters seemed a bit one dimensional, but after a bit it became obvious that there is much more to the characters hiding just below the surface. The characters personalities each get a chance to shine through. I love the diversity of the characters traits and characteristics, it eliminated the sense of sameness that so many books fall in to. I loved reading this book and am anxious for the next one!

Recommendations: I am recommending this book for readers 9th grade and up! I recommend reading this book if you love dystopian stories, action packed YA books, YA romances, or just YA in general.
